Two changes ahead of Chiefs battle

- Rudolph Jacobs

The Stormers have injected a much-needed additional kick into their play-off hopes by recalling fullback SP Marais (right), as they prepare to face the Chiefs at Newlands tomorrow.

Stormers coach Robbie Fleck decided yesterday to make just two changes to the team who beat the Bulls 41-33 at Loftus Versfeld.

Marais will replace Springbok winger Dillyn Leyds, and abrasive loose forward Rynhardt Elstadt was also set to make his return.

Marais’ recall saw Leyds, who was in sparkling form at No 15 last week, moving to the left wing where he replaced speedster Seabelo Senatla who was hoped to provide an impact from the bench.

Elstadt’s return resulted in the demotion of the hugely talented flank/No 8 Sikhumbuzo Notshe to the bench where he was expected to create spark for the home team in the second half.

Elstadt had recovered from a wrist injury while Marais was fully fit after being plagued by a knee ailment.

There were two other changes to the matchday squad, with fitagain props Oli Kebble and Wilco Louw both included on the replacements bench.

Fleck said his team looked forward to playing in front of the Newlands faithful.

“The players and management have put in a lot of hard work in preparation for this game,” Fleck said.
