Price on Momo is claimed

- Jack Milner

The 5-1 that was on offer about Momo in Race 8 at the Vaal tomorrow has been snapped up and Gavin van Zyl's charge is now quoted at 7-2.

That opening price looked very appetising and even though the odds have shortened, Momo could still be good value at her current price.

Lately the best bets on the card have come early on and that appears to be the case at this Vaal meeting although the odds available are not great. This is where it could be a good idea to take your bets at TAB as they could provide better value.

The Van Zyl yard sends out La Collossa in Race 1 and the twoyear-old daughter of Querari is expected to improve on her debut performance. She put up a promising effort in a Juvenile Plate when a 2.20-length fourth behind Frederico's Dream.

The winner was already a onetime winner while the runnerup, Twelve Oaks, had won twice and had contested feature races, including the Grade 2 SA Fillies Nursery and the Grade 1 Allan Robertson Championships.

La Collossa was well supported to win that race so she had to be showing something at home. Reverting to a Maiden Juvenile Plate this time should see Keagan de Melo's mount get on a winning track. However, you will have to take 8-10.

Another runner with a chance to finally shed her maiden tag is Osculation in Race 3. She has run 21 times for 12 places, so the 14-10 on offer might not be that attractive, but of the raced runners, especially with Gavin Lerena up, she does stand out.

The dangers are likely to be two first-timers – Exclusive and Fullfill My Dream.

Piere Strydom returns from injury to ride at the meeting as he prepares for the two big meetings at Greyville this weekend. His best ride could be Arlington in Race 7, a MR 66 Handicap over 1600m.
