Cold calling helps sales

NO MEANS IS MORE EFFECT AND DIRECT There is nothing more disheartening in business than being declined by a customer; you take it personally and look at yourself and wonder if something is wrong with you.

- Munya Duvera

Among the many necessary functions an entrepreneur must do to succeed, selling has to be at the top of the list. Why? Because that is the function of the business that brings in paying customers. Revenue in your business is like fuel that keeps the engine running. Without it your tank will run dry and your business will inevitably come to a screeching halt.

But selling is extremely difficult and the effort required to convince customers to part with their hard-earned money for your products and services is grossly underestimated.

Fortunately there is a method that has proven successful time and time again – but by the same token, it is a method that many fear and few have mastered. I am referring to the infamous cold-calling sales technique.

Entrepreneurs across the world dread the idea of picking up the phone and calling a total stranger to solicit business.

It is even deemed sacrilege in some corners, but the truth of the matter is that entrepreneurs fear rejection.

There is nothing more disheartening in business than being declined by a customer; you take it personally and look at yourself and wonder if something is wrong with you. I can with complete confidence assure you that nothing is wrong with you – the customer did not say no to you but rather to the product or service you were offering.

Nonetheless, there is no greater method to contact potential customers than cold calling. No means is more effective and direct than picking up the phone to sell to prospective customers.

What alternative do you have? You could send e-mails, but people rarely read e-mails from people they don’t know, let alone do business with them (and that’s if your e-mail wasn’t considered spam).

What about social media? It’s not direct enough; anyone and everyone could see your advert but that doesn’t mean they’ll buy. Also, they maybe be out of your region.

And, finally, you could try networking events, but that would require you to attend every business function on a daily basis, which I doubt you have the time or energy for.

Therefore cold calling emerges as the most direct, efficient and cost-effective method because you can engage with your desired target as easily as picking up the phone. Don’t worry about being rejected. Even the best cold-calling experts get rejected. Remember, it is a numbers game and the more you do it, the higher your probability of success and the easier cold calling gets.
