Manyisa gives Downs a midfield poser

- Michaelson Gumede

The addition of Oupa Manyisa (left) at Mamelodi Sundowns may force Pitso Mosimane to reconfigure the centre of his midfield.

Since the departure of Bongani Zungu to Portuguese side Vitoria de Guimaraes, the pairing of captain Hlompho Kekana and Tiyani Mabunda has mostly bossed the middle of the park, with Mabunda deployed as the anchorman, while Kekana has more freedom to link up with the attack.

Now with the ex-Bucs skipper, whose attacking attributes overshadow his defensive capabilities, on board, Kekana says he is ready to deliver wherever he is deployed.

Sundowns begin their new season at home to Maritzburg United in the MTN8 quarterfinal tomorrow, though Manyisa is unlikely to start that one, although he has started training with his new side.

“We have tried so many formations during our preparations in the pre-season,” Kekana said.

“I am a player who always wants to play and wants to be on the pitch all the time. I am ready for the responsibility and it will be important to me and my teammates to make sure we carry out instructions. We always say as Sundowns players that we will always put the team first.

“The squad is ready to adjust to any formation. If you remember last season, there were games that I did not play and other regulars did not play. We were trying to rotate the squad a try out different tactics.”
