Jonevret breaks his silence

Kjell Jonevret (right), the former Orlando Pirates coach, has broken his silence on why he had to leave the Buccaneers.

Jonevret left Pirates last week after just more than five months on the job, and the Swedish coach was replaced by Milutin Sredojevic a day after.

Speaking to a Swedish sports TV channel, Jonevret said being sidelined was the reason behind his departure from the club.

“It’s not a decision that comes from nowhere. The working conditions are very special in the club. You are not very involved‚ and that’s frustrating‚“Jonevret said.

“You want so much to help, but you really cannot. I felt it could not continue as it was, and felt it was best to leave. So I quit.

“Communication was not very good, and it was difficult to make my voice heard. It’s a big club with very many who want to be involved and make decisions‚“added Jonevret in a reference to boardroom interference.

“The political aspect is extraordinary in the club.

“But there are no hard feelings at all. I and the club separated as friends,” continued Jonevret.

He said he knew his time was up when club chairman Irvin Khoza said they might employ someone else in the future.

“They probably knew I was not happy at the end.”
