Sun International’s Sun City in North West provides the backdrop for award-winning Nigerian movie producer Ayo “AY” Makun’s third instalment of his hilarious Akpos franchise, 10 Days in Sun City.

Marking the movie’s release outside West African borders, Sun City also hosted the South African premiere on August 10.

At the premiere were the movie’s cast and crew, including AY, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Adesua Etomi, Tuface Idibia, Gbenro Ajibade, Thenjiiwe Moseley, Amanda Du Pont and Celeste Ntuli.

The movie will be screened at select cinemas from August 25.

The movie, which trumped global hits such as Wonder Woman and Transformers 5 to claim the number one spot at the Nigeria box office, is on track to surpass AY’s last movie, A Trip to Jamaica, which is the second-highest earning film in Nollywood history.

Speaking about the premiere of 10 Days in Sun City, AY said it was an act of taking the movie home.

“[The movie] may have been conceived and nurtured in Nigeria but it was birthed in Sun City and to me, we are simply doing what is right by taking this beautiful baby home.”

He also thanked Sun International, SA Tourism and South African Airways for their support for the production of the movie.

Sun City general manager Raul de Lima was excited Sun City provided the set for what promises to be a Nigerian box office recordbreaker.

“We are delighted to have been part of bringing this movie to fruition by providing the backdrop. It is a source of tremendous pride that Sun City was chosen for the movie’s location. We are also excited to see the local response to 10 Days in Sun City.”

The movie is a potpourri of love, drama, passion and culture, combined with generous portions of comedy. It is a feature-length comedy drama that sees Akpos on another adventure, this time, at Sun City, with his girlfriend Bianca.

Bianca wins the queen of Nigeria crown and becomes the face of OTAWI conglomerate which is owned by Nigeria’s richest man, Otunba Ayoola Williams, aka “The Old Fox”. Will Akpos give up his love or will Otunba’s wit and charm conquer again like he has done, time and again, in the world of business?
