Relax in theValley

REGULARLY TOP-RATED IN GAUTENG It offers a number of services, even a mother-to-be massage for pregnant women.

look like a Stephanie Meyer vampire,” I excitedly whispered to my friend as my face gleamed golden following one of the most luxurious facials I have ever had, and probably will ever receive.

A few minutes earlier my face was wiped clean by pore tightening magnets – yes, magnets. The facial is called the Black Pearl, 24K Golden Facial. Incorporating a traditional facial, the second part includes 24 karat gold which is smeared over your face.

After drying, the metal is removed with a magnet – and you can feel your pores zip closed with every graze of the magnet. Afterwards, residue is rubbed into your face with a refreshing lotion, literally leaving you glittering.

The Cleopatra-esque facial might be gold, but it’s not the first prize at Valley Lodge Spa in Magaliesburg.

The Spa offers a range of treatments, from the expected massages and pedicures you can also look forward to alternative treatments like ear candling – a thermal-auricular therapy that aims to improve general health and well-being by lighting one end of a hollow candle and placing the other end in the ear canal.

It helps to relieve earaches, migraines, and loss of hearing and also generates blood flow. If, however, you like it simple, nothing will beat a full body, deep tissue massage.

Starting with your shoulders, the treatment loosens muscles as every fibre is worked. After uncurling like a pet shop snake straight after hibernation from the massage table, don’t think the day is over. Far from it.

The main area of the spa is a quiet sanctuary with a heated mineral swimming pool and a bubbling hot jet spa to entertain your every hydrotherapy whim while you sip on a cool glass of MCC or cucumber water.

Another treat seems to be the pedicures, done poolside. Expect soft heels, perfectly shaped toenails, and a sudden yearning to show off your feet in sandals.

Other services include a mother-to-be massage, catering for pregnant women. It’s no suprise that it’s consistently a top-rated spa in Gauteng.
