The Michelangelo Spa – a place of luxury and tranquility

- Thami Kwazi

After two weeks of overdoing things at the gym and feeling pain in every part of my body, I was treated to a well-needed 90 minute neck and back massage at the Micheangelo spa.

It’s always advisable to arrive at least 60 minutes early to change into your gown and slippers and catch a glass of bubbly or orange juice.

This also give you the opportunity to peruse the facilities and decide if you’ll be enjoying some “me-time” in the jacuzzi after your treatment.

While viewing the facilities I caught a glimpse of the upstairs relaxation area, where my companion and I got to enjoy a glass of bubbly and slice of chocolate cake with a rooftop view of the buzzing Sandton district.

We didn’t bring our cozzies so missed out on the opportunity of enjoying the hydro pool or outdoor shower, but the view was magnificent enough to make us forget about our daily woes for a while.

The Michealangelo Spa is hidden inside the Michelangelo Hotel, located in the heart of the Sandton business district.

While the spa was made to offer treatments to the hotel’s guests, anyone who is not a guest can also book themselves in for a facial, massage or manicure.

The styling and décor theme of the Renaissance era is carried through from the main hotel, giving the spa visual continuity. This is particularly evident with the large, circular, heated pool you see before you get to reception.

Warm and friendly staff are highly accommodating and all qualified therapists. Even guests who are slightly tardy will still be treated to the full treatment they have booked.

You can also order and enjoy light meals or a snack and a glass of vino from the Michelangelo kitchens, which is served at your convenience in between or after your treatment.

There are four treatment rooms, two manicure and pedicure stations and a jacuzzi that is available all day to anyone who books a treatment.

Packages at the spa are tailor-made for each customer and guest. This is due to the amount of international guests who visit the spa and request something completely different to what’s on the standard menue.

The spa will go out of its way to ensure that you get what you ask for.

Apart from its treatment rooms, of which there are private rooms for one-onone treatments as well as couples rooms, guests can unwind in its upstairs relaxation area, enjoy the hydro pool or wash away the troubles of the day in its magnificent outdoor shower. They can also make use of the sauna, steam room and male and female changing facilities with lockers.

While the treatments, expertise of its therapists and design and décor of the Michelangelo Spa speaks for itself, so does its location.
