Sono: Just a blip on our way to the title

- Sibongiseni Gumbi

Jomo Cosmos stuttered in their first match of the season in the National First Division as they lost to Highlands Park, but remain adamant they will go all the way to the Absa Premiership this term.

Ezenkosi could not find a reply after Mothobi Mvala scored for the Lions of the North but owner and coach Jomo Sono says the defeat was just unfortunate and has done nothing to curb their enthusiasm.

“I think we have a fair chance of winning promotion despite the defeat in Tembisa. We were missing six of our regular players. We outplayed them in every department but could not turn that into a goal,” he said.

Ezenkosi host University of Pretoria tomorrow and goalkeeper Kgositsile Ndlovu said they would start collecting points and get their campaign on track.

“Winning is the ultimate thing for every player and I believe collectively we can do it because we have a good team. It was just unfortunate that we lost our first game,” he said.

The Lions of the North will, meanwhile, be hoping to follow their win with another when they face Royal Eagles at Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg this afternoon. Eagles didn’t have a good start as they drew 1-1 with Uthongathi FC in their first match last weekend.
