Extensive water cuts

Residents west of Johannesbu­rg will spend more than a day fetching water with buckets from tanks, due to the Rand Water replacing and repairing portions of the main water line.

The 33-hour water cut is scheduled to start at 8am today.

Joburg Water spokespers­on Eleanor Mavimbela said mobile tanks would move around the area.

“The planned shutdown is envisaged for 33 hours,” said Mavimbela.

“Customers living within the reservoir zone may be affected six hours after the commenceme­nt of the shutdown and customers living within the tower zone will be affected within one hour after the commenceme­nt of the shutdown.”

Areas that will be affected include Robindale extension 1; Jacanlee; Cresta extension 2; Darrenwood; Aldarapark; Windsor; Robin Hills; Windsor Glen; Rand Park extension 5, 4 and 6; Fontainebl­eau; Linden; Pine Park and extension 1; Linden extension; Bryanston extension 5; Bryanston extension 3; Beverly Gardens; Ferndale (all extensions); Strijdom Park; Summit Road; Vandia Grove (all extensions); Bryanbrink; Daniel Brinkpark; Bryanston extension 5; Lyme Park extension 3; and 4 and Kensington B.

Water tanks will be placed at Windsor, corner Beatrice and Dukes; Cresta, corner Republic and Judges; Linden corner First Avenue and Braam Fischer (at BP Garage); Robindale at Cherry Street and Bert Road, and Aborb Street and Oak Avenue; Linden at 5th Street, corner 3rd Street; and 8th Street and 3rd Street.

In Pine Park, tanks will be stationed at Dalmeny road and Gavin Avenue; Aldarapark at 1st Street and St Michelle Avenue; and Robin Hill at Winston Street and Valley road.

Others tanks will be at corner Anchor and Chester; corner Conduit and Westview; corner Kays and Cypress; corner Highview and West; Bright Water Commons, corner Sterling and Fabriek, corner Milne and Daniel; and Ferndale High School.
