SuperSport United midfielder Teboho Mokoena says coach Eric Tinkler has instilled a lot of confidence in his squad to help them get past inform Maritzburg United in their MTN8 semifinal second-leg clash at the Harry Gwala Stadium this evening.

With the scores tied at 1-1 after the first leg in Tshwane, Matsatsantsa need to win or hold the Team of Choice to a 2-2 draw or higher to reach the final.

“The coach is very confident that we are going to come back with the result,” SuperSport midfielder Teboho Mokoena told Saturday Citizen.

“He has been preparing me individually and the team at large. He has done his job and it is now all up to us, because we are the ones who will be playing,” he added.

After studying all the permutations, the capital city-based side’s game-plan is simple – they will look to get themselves on the scoresheet early to force Fadlu Davids’ men to chase the game.

“The aim is to go out there and get an early goal and try as hard as possible not to concede. If they score first we’ll then have to try to score two goals. If we score two goals, they have to score another two in order to win the game, so we will have an advantage if we get those two goals. But if they score one goal, we will have to fight and equalise, and if it is a draw, we will see what will happen afterwards,” said Mokoena.

The 20-year-old believes his side has substantial intelligence on their opposition, and he also understands importance of starting the season on a fine note.

“During the first game we knew their weaknesses. We have studied them again and we will try as much as possible to use it to our advantage.

“We need to try as much as possible to win the trophy just like other teams want to … the mandate is to win the cup, so for us it will be a good start if we start with the trophy and it will bring about a lot of confidence going into the rest of the season. We have to go all out and try to win it,” he said.
