JOBURG OUTFIT: GAINING MOMENTUM AT RIGHT TIME Flanker says a team effort is to thank for revival.

As one of the few remaining members of their Super Rugby campaign, flanker Cyle Brink has become one of the mainstays of the Golden Lions’ Currie Cup campaign.

The Lions campaign has only really started to gain some much-needed momentum when they managed to record back-toback wins for the first time this season with the win over the Pumas followed up by a much-needed victory in Kimberley against Griquas.

And ahead of facing the Blue Bulls at Ellis Park this Saturday, the Lions seem to finally hit the right balance in their back row with Kwagga Smith returning at openside flank and former Springbok Ryan Kankowski back after his groin injury.

And Brink played his part by scoring the team’s opening try in Kimberley and was later named Man-of-the-Match.

“Look it’s a team effort and if it wasn’t for the boys around me it wouldn’t have been possible,” the modest Brink said after the game,

“So I just want to thank them, eventually it’s all about a team effort, so I owe a lot to their effort as well.”

And while the Lions have a bye after this weekend followed by just three more games before the play-off stage, Brink felt they should build on what they showcased in Kimberley.

“We expected a physical encounter, it’s always tough going to Kimberley and that’s what we expected and we were all just glad to get away with the win,” said Brink.

“The boys showed up to play on the day.”

The Lions, who lost 54-22 to the Bulls in the first round on the same day as the Super Rugby final, only have their next game after this weekend on September 29 when they play away to trophy favourites the Sharks.

Their last two regular matches are both at Ellis Park, hosting Western Province and the Free State Cheetahs.
