Bank on Lloyd's Legacy

- Ken Nicol

A MegaPool on the Pick 6 carryover at Scottsville will entice punters, with the pool expected to close at around R2.5 million.

The bet kicks off in Race 4 with an interesting-looking Pinnacle Stakes on Sunday.

Redcarpet Captain is the bestweighted runner and makes some appeal. While he has been kept to sprinting in recent starts, he does have an easy win over this trip to his credit.

The five-year-old gelding signalled a return to best three weeks ago when showing plenty of pace with blinkers back on before predictably finding London Call a little too smart in a similar event over slightly shorter.

Since then he has changed stables, joining his conqueror in the care of trainer Mark Dixon, and if fully acclimatised to his new surroundings, can be expected to be in the thick of things.

Another major contender has to be Summer Sky. He bolted up by five lengths over this distance on his only previous appearance at this track before contesting a few feature races during the KwaZulu-Natal season with varying amounts of success.

Best suited by this trip, the relatively lightly raced four-yearold will welcome the drop in class and has scope for improvement. He would be a narrow first choice with reigning champion jockey Anthony Delpech aboard.

Sole three-year-old The Dazzler is an interesting entry. While badly out at the weights on paper, he could turn out far better than his current 85 merit rating and has already displayed a strong liking for the course and distance. Leave him out of the Pick 6 at your peril.

Mr Roy, Never Settle and Chicago Beat are others to consider. in Perhaps the best same-race play is to take a Trifecta and Quartet using Summer Sky as a floating banker with the rest permed.

Those in search of a Pick 6 banker could get their answer in Race 5 in the form of Lloyd’s Legacy. Both the Australian-bred gelding’s wins have been impressive and he seems to display a marked preference for a straight course.
