Manhunt for gogo’s killers
A manhunt for an elderly woman’s murderer has started in Jane Furse near Lebowakgomo, police say.
The woman was killed in Vergelegen C between 8pm on Saturday night and 2.30am yesterday morning, according to Limpopo police.
Betty Phaswane, 82, was sleeping alone at home after her grandson had left at about 8pm to go to a tavern, Lieutenant-Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said yesterday.
The grandson returned home at about 2.30am to find the fridge door wide open and his clothes scattered all over the room.
“He went to his grandmother’s room and found her lifeless body lying in a pool of blood on the floor,” Ngoepe said.
Police were called and immediately began the crime scene investigation before starting the manhunt.
The motive for the murder is unknown.
The police investigation is continuing.
Anyone with any information that could lead to the arrest of the killers is asked to contact Captain Richard Boshomane at 079-8945501, or via Crime Stop on 086001-0111.
Alternatively, they can use the Crime Line SMS 32211.
“The SA Police Service in this province condemns in the strongest terms possible the continuous attacks and killings of elderly people in a number of areas recently.
“Members of communities are advised to put in place more safety measures for elderly people to prevent this type of incident,” Ngoepe said. – ANA
