It’s time for our Springbok coach to be daring

xcuse me for shaking my head in disbelief at Toetie’s Springbok squad selection. Importing Francois Louw, at great expense, and a player who is ageing, and who has not set the world alight, is a mystery when we have the rugged Kwagga Smith (four times Man of the Match) and the uncompromising, no-nonsense, tough Chris Cloete waiting in the wings.

Play Siya Kolisi at eighthman and Kwagga and Chris on the flanks.

Why retain Courtnall Skosan and Raymond Rhule at the expense of Ruan Combrinck? I would play Jan Serfontein and Francois Venter at centre and move Jesse Kriel to the wing, with Combrinck the other wing. Then I would bring in Warrick Gelant at fullback and move Andries Coetzee to the bench for a break.

Unfortunately, the best scrumhalf is now playing for the Sale Sharks, but Louis Schreuder is not a bad choice. Flyhalf is a problem but one will have to stick with Elton Jantjies and hope he improves.

What has happened to Fred Zelinga and Andre Esterhuizen? Curwin Bosch needs to put on some weight.

I would love to see the big, burly Andre Esterhuizen on the wing in a Springbok side. Zelinga is a very underrated player.

Come on Toetie, be daring! We really have nothing to lose. Will Francois Louw still be around for the next World Cup?
