Real Kings aim for real points

- Sibongiseni Gumbi

Real Kings are aware that one bad result could see them languishing at the bottom end of the National First Division and midfielder Lindokuhle Mtshali said they are aiming for three points when they play Super Eagles in Bethlehem this afternoon.

“Defeat is not an option for us,” Mtshali said yesterday. “If you look at the table, there are a few points separating teams at the top and those at the bottom. One bad result and we could be on the wrong side. I know it is still early in the season but we want to avoid pressure.”

Kings have not had a good start to the season with one win and four draws in the first five games, but Mtshali is not worried yet.

“We are fine. We have been playing well and we are a better team than we were last season. I think we miss chances but we do everything else well. Defensively we are good and we have conceded just three goals.

“We just need a win to turn the corner. We are gunning for it at Eagles. We just have to convert our chances,” said the 19-year-old player.

He said Eagles are a dangerous team and very difficult to assess because they use different styles for every game.

“They play a different kind of game and you can’t really plan for them. We have to play our own way and try to catch their slow defenders napping. That is the only way we can beat them,” he said.

Having finished in a respectable 11th position last season, Mtshali said they are aiming for promotion this season.

“Last season was our first in this division and was about learning. Now we are ready to challenge for promotion. Our chairman constantly reminds us that he wants to see us in the Absa Premiership next season,” said Mtshali.
