Internal experts develop library of colour features content to help make a decision.
With Summer on its way and the need to repaint and decorate, paint manufacturer Dulux has revealed Pictured Rocks Colour of the Year for 2018 manufactured by AkzoNobel.
The criteria for the selection is influenced by current décor trends and extensive industry research into what consumers feel best fits their lifestyles.
Palesa Ramaisa, Dulux colour consultant, explains the importance of the colour and how it can be used when decorating your home.
Q: What is the colour of the year?
PR: The colour of the year is Pictured Rocks. Pictured Rocks is a versatile shade which is able to be paired up with a total of 36 complementary colour shades.
Dulux has created four amazing palettes that all support our colour of the year with ease. The Pictured Rocks home palette combines a selection of deep purple shades as well as light blush pinks.
Q: How was it selected?
PA: The Akzonobel Global Aesthetic centre leads the company’s decorative paints trend analysis, colour research, design and art direction. This creative team is led by creative director Heleen Van Gent.
The centre is able to bring together 11 designers and trend watchers from all over the world with Akzonobel experts from the Global aesthetic centre. We are able to give a unique mix of perspectives from a broad range of disciplines and cultures.
Our internal colour experts also develop a library of colour features content, which communicate the trends to professional interior designers and architects.
The groups focus on social, economic, global design and global colour trends in order to deliver content that is relevant.
Q :Where can the colour be used?
PA: Pictured rocks is a versatile shade. The shade is able to instantly give nourishing warmth of wood and tactile comfort of leather to add a sense of harmony.
Pictured Rocks can easily be used throughout the home space. The roomsets that have produced are able to showcase the different ways that consumers can incorporate Pictured Rocks as well as the 36 complementary colour shades within their spaces.
Q: Are there other colours it can be combined with?
PA: Akzonobel has created four palettes. Within them there are nine complementary shades that work perfectly with the colour of the year.
From the blush pinks to the ink blues there are 36 complementary colour shades that work effortlessly with Picture Rocks.
Q: What are the latest décor trends?
PA: More and more individuals are becoming brave with their colour selections. Individuals are leaning more on the beauty of being bold and confident in the colour choices they make.
Another trend that is becoming visible is bringing in the outdoors, which is able to create a relaxing and calming space. People are starting to play around with creating patterns and interesting motifs to create spaces that best describe their personalities.
Q: How can you revamp your home using these colours?
PA: The main objective is that consumers are given options that will aid them in creating spaces that are balanced.
This year’s campaign looks at using different methods to create interesting features on their walls, namely two tone walls, blurred walls and how to paint an oval, which are all helpful methods that will equip the public in making decisions that work for them.
