Trophy has done wonders for confidence

Bidvest Wits youngster Kobamelo Kodisang says winning the Gauteng Champion of Champions tournament this past weekend felt great and has lifted the confidence of everyone in the club following a sloppy start to the season.

The Absa Premiership champions beat National First Division side Jomo Cosmos 2-0 in the final at the Vosloorus Stadium.

“We have not been celebrating a lot lately and winning this competition has helped us in believing and trusting that we can bounce back,” said Kodisang.

“Everyone is happy and determined to work extra hard to help the club get back to its best. We need to carry the same spirit into the league.”

The Clever Boys next face table-toppers Baroka FC in their next league fixture, an encounter which Kodisang believes will be mouth-watering.

“Baroka are playing well, they have really shown they don’t want to see themselves fighting to stay in the league towards the end of the season. For us, it is all about rectifying our previous mistakes. We have not been lethal in front of goal, something that is missing in the team because we have really played well,” he added.

“I am glad we won and showed that we want to change our fortunes in the league. Once we get it right by winning our next couple of games I am certain we will be alright.”

The 18-year old midfielder, who joined Wits from Platinum Stars just before the start of the current campaign, adds that he is enjoying his spell at the Johannesburg outfit and wants to add value to the club.

“The club did very well last season by winning the MTN8 and the league, now we have to build on that success.”
