LEVI’S TAILOR SHOP: THE COLLABORATION WITH SA’S COOLEST RETRO DESIGNERS

- Kgosi Modisane

Adding flavour and flair to the most loved denim trends.

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of an iconic denim trend which has taken over every fashion-loving fan’s wardrobe, the Type III Trucker jacket. Born into the rebellious Summer of Love movement, the Type III Trucker jacket represents a voice of the youth, authentic style and self-expression that has rocked our wardrobes since 1967.

It is in this spirit of self-expression and celebration of an icon that a famous denim brand has opened the home of customisation – the Levi’s Tailor Shop. Nestled in the heart of Johannesburg in Braamfontein, the Tailor Shop opened its doors to the public on September 15 and is said to only operate on a one-month only basis.

All customisations done to any Levi jacket will be free of charge and visitors to the Tailor Shop can choose from the various techniques available on the menu such as paint flick, dip & dye, patches, cuts, distressing, spray on stencils, fabric pens and accessories. The denim jackets will be available to purchase at the Tailor Shop for R599.00, but customers can also bring in their much loved and well-worn jackets for an update.

Part of adding a local twist to the customisation offering, the shop hosted an array of local artists who were available to customise denim jackets through their own unique craft.

RINA & DIMO OF RI.CH FACTORY SEWING AFRICAN PRINTS (INSTAGRAM: @RICHFACTORY)

Dynamic African print duo Rina and Dimo of Ri.Ch Factory have taken the print clash phenomenon by storm as they take great pride in creating garments which portray a sense of African pride.

“We are proud to showcase our heritage and culture as Africans. Africa has always been a source of inspiration for modern art, fashion and culture. Our identity continues to inspire the world, even today African soil has given birth to creative thinkers with vision and raw talent,” added the now newlywed contemporary fashion pair.

As a company the two share a common thread which centres on the basis that Africa as a continent is fast becoming the centre of attention with regards to fashion and design. “Our message is simple, our melanin is popping and Africa isn't the future, Africa is now.”
