Some early entries for Charity Mile

-

Entries for the R1-million Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile close at 11am today and already there have been a few interesting early nominations.

Johan Janse van Vuuren has entered seven runners, headed by last year’s winner New Predator who is joined by Brazuca, an impressive winner at Turffontein on Saturday, Doosra, She’s A Giver, Crowd Pleaser, Irish Pride and Kilauea.

He said on Saturday Brazuca was most likely heading for the Sansui Summer Cup but he would be looking at the draws with regards to the Charity Mile.

The other entry of interest is Classify, the six-yearold from Port Elizabeth who almost pulled off the Grand Heritage victory.

Dorrie Sham confirmed that with a merit rating of 95 it would be hard to find suitable races for him in the Eastern Cape so he will be staying in Joburg with Mike de Kock.

The day sees celebrities dressed to the nines to cheer home the stars of the turf as their finishing positions in the Charity Mile determine what portion of R1-million will go to their respective charities.

The concept is a simple one, 16 horses are paired with 16 celebrities, charities and media partners and everyone unites on the day to support one common goal which is to support those less fortunate.

Last year’s event was won by New Predator and was something of a family affair with Gavin Lerena the jockey in the irons while his cousin, and now world champion boxer, Kevin Lerena representing the Peermont Education Trust - Bursary Programme.
