The US is not alone in senseless mass killings

South Africa, with 50 murders every day, is certainly no example for the world to follow, writes

The United States has a population of 323.1 million (2016). By and large the majority of Americans are peace-loving and law-abiding citizens. Violence is not a way of life for most Americans. But they, like all countries, are also plagued by criminality and lawlessness.

Mass shootings do occur from time to time as in all countries throughout the world.

For example, the mass shooting in Paris in November 2015, where 130 people were killed, the massacre of 68 campers in Utoya, Norway, and in Port Arthur, Australia, where a 28-year-old opened fire in a café, killing 35 people. More than 230 have just been killed in Mogadishu by car bombs. The US is not alone. Not all mass shootings are carried out by the mentally unstable or deranged. Other factors are revenge, hate, desire for fame, copycat killings, terrorism etc.

So to call all Americans deranged and living in fear in a lawless country is absolutely absurd and a nonsensical generalisation.

If that is so, then it must be applied to all countries, especially the Middle East where thousands are killed by Islamic terrorists. Are they all deranged?

South Africa, rated one of the most dangerous countries in the world, has its citizens living in constant fear, as we have 50 murders a day, plus vigilantes meting out mob justice on alleged criminals almost daily. We certainly are no example for the world to follow.
