For the love of Alexandra

Elvis loves Alexandra including the rats – literally and figuratively. CAR GUARD DESIGNS SUCCESSFUL T-SHIRT

-

Elvis Maseko, a 33 year old resident from Alexandra, is working full time as a car guard at the newly opened Alex Mall in Johannesburg.

Elvis recently approached RUSH Retail to help him with his aspirations of becoming a designer and entrepreneur.

“Elvis came to us with a print out of some designs he had created and asked whether we would look at printing them on the blank clothing that we sell in the store. After having a look through about 20 designs, we decided on one design to start to assess how successful the sales would be” says Marketing Manager of RUSH Retail Kirsten Hopwood.

The uptake from the customers within Alex has been great, with sales growing week on week. Elvis acquired a passion for art from an early age and after an introspection of life in Alex, he decided to think out the box of how he could do better for himself and his family who they call the “rats of Alex”.

“I made this t-shirt because it resembles life in Alexandra. I love Alex, including the rats, both literally and figuratively and this T-shirts can be purchased from RUSH Retail in Alex Mall for R120. t-shirt is all about love or hate. Either you love Alex or you hate Alex, and I love Alex with all my heart.”

This opportunity opened doors for Elvis.

“I thank the people such as Nelly Maseko, Obed Baphela and other Alexandrians who love Alex, as they made me continue to think out of the box and realise the opportunity of selling t-shirts and that my dreams of a consortium with different artisans and designers so that we can survive in a co-op world are possible.” – Citizen reporter has
