Zimbabwe mirrors SA’s problems

-

The longer the situation in Zimbabwe remains unresolved, the more likely the coup will fail and allow Mugabe to rally his supporters, turning the tables on the military.

The African Union insisting that the Zimbabwe constitution be upheld may weaken the resolve of those wanting change.

Yet, the call by its members, demanding the military leaders observe Zimbabwe’s constitution, is laughable: bear in mind most of the members of the AU fail to uphold their own laws and allow the abuse of human rights to go unpunished without a word.

The coup has nothing to do with ridding the criminals with close ties to Mugabe and preserving the history of the struggle. Its real intention is to install the dismissed vice-president, Emmerson Mnangagwa, a tyrant of note, who is unlikely to instil business confidence, or bring about democratic rule.

The problems in Zimbabwe mirror our own difficulties, engineered by an incompetent administration which has allowed corruption to flourish on a grand scale, with no regard to the affect it has on our economy. Similar to our neighbours, our recovery will take years to occur. Albertskroon
