South African Football Association CEO Dennis Mumble has called for more support for women’s football in South Africa after sponsors Sasol increased the prize money for the ninth edition of the Sasol League National Championships.

The tournament will take place in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga and will see nine provincial Sasol league winners battle it out for a huge sum of R200 000 prize money, R150 000 more than the previous competition.

The team that finishes the tournament in second place will walk away with R100 000, while the third-placed team will get R60 000. The sponsors also announced that there would also be R5 000 cheque each at the end of the tournament for the Diski Queen-of-the-Tournament, Goalkeeper-of-the-Tournament, Top Goalscorer-of-the-Tournament, Most Promising-Queen-of-the Tournament and Queens-of-theTournament

“We have to say thank you to Sasol for their continuous support towards women’s football in the country. Women’s football is growing, but we need more support to take it to the next level,” said Mumble.

“Sasol have upped their game for the national championships by pumping up more money into the tournament.

“Now the ball is in the players’ court for them to also show they deserve all of this. There will be a lot to play for because there will also be national team scouts on the lookout for players.”
