Amajita cast the net wider
National Under-20 coach Thabo Senong (above) says he is using the current Amajita camp to get information and assess the new players in the team ahead of the Cosafa Under-20 Youth Championships from December 6 to 16 in Zambia.
The team has already played two friendly games against Bidvest Wits reserves and a University of Johannesburg SAB league team this week.
They will then travel to Lesotho today where they will continue their preparations.
“We will have a friendly game against Lesotho on Saturday. This preparation camp is about getting information, the right players, the right combinations and the right team so that we can go and perform well at the tournament,” Senong said yesterday.
He added there were several players missing from the camp due to matric exams. However, they will join the squad after writing their final papers for the final selection of players that will represent the country at the competition.
“The core of the Amajita squad is busy writing exams, the likes of Malebogo Modise, Brooklyn Pogenpoel and many others. It is a very important two weeks for them at school, we need to respect that” the Amajita coach added.
“But it has created opportunities for other players to be assessed and we are happy with the group with have brought in.”
The current camp will finish on Sunday with the final camp set to start December 1 where Senong will make the final selection.
