Bernardi Auctioneers invites you to their final auction of South African art, collectables and numismatics for 2017 tomorrow. The wide variety on offer promises a lively auction with something for every taste and pocket.
Session 1 will start at 10am with numismatics, estate jewellery, pocket and wrist watches.
Gold bullion features prominently with 50 lots of assorted South African and ZAR coins, Kruger pounds, rands and English sovereigns from the 19th and 20th centuries - all under the hammer. A scarce 1894 ZAR half-pond which is seldom found on auction is just one of the star lots. Another rarity - the Colombia 100, 200, 300, 500 and 1 500 Peso gold proof set – should pique the interest of the serious numismatist.
Sought-after jewellery pieces by Shimansky, include platinum, gold and diamond set pendants, rings and bracelets. The ultimate, a platinum ladies 1.04ct diamond dress ring, will complement any occasion. The highlight among the vintage Rolex, Omega, Hebdomas, Heuer, Elgin and Longines pocket and wristwatches, is a bespoke 18ct yellow gold ladies Audemars Piguet wristwatch and a matching diamond ring.
Session 2 - Collectables and Art – will continue at 1pm.
Collectables features a Royal Albert Serenity pattern tea and dinner service as well as a selection of Cape copper wares and a small brandy still. An Edwardian double pedestal partner’s desk and Globe Wernicke sectional bookcase will fit comfortably into any office or home. Volkswagen Beetle and Kombi toy enthusiasts will love the small selection of iconic models on offer.
A large early and definitive Keith Alexander Namib oil, Panic, will launch the proceedings in the art session of 100 lots. His work has featured prominently on auctions of late with certain paintings achieving record prices. Panic was executed in 1986 and should attract the attention of avid collectors. Another stalwart, Walter Battiss, with his much admired vibrant oil, Buck in Long Grass, is sure to command attention.
A 1930 oil by Maggie Laubser, Portrait of a Girl, is a strong expressionist work that clearly defines the choice of the artist’s palette, mood and subject. Sunlit Namaqualand, an oil by Hugo Naudé, exemplifies the impressionist style of the artist.
Old master and contemporary works include Boonzaier, Boshoff, Catherine, Claerhout, Coetzer, Cohen, Desmond, Eloff, Hodgins, Joubert, Klar, Marais, Marx, Menck, Miles, Mokgosi, Ndinisa, Paravano, Phuti, Roos, Sibiya, Tugwell, van Heerden, Wallace, Young and Zander. Sculptures by Cole, Den Houting, Minnaar, Muzondo and Theron are included in the list.
