Snowdance heads Cape Fillies Guineas betting
CLEAR: SHE IS FAVOURITE WITH ONLY TWO HORSES QUOTED IN SINGLE FIGURES Legal Eagle is hot favourite to follow up on his win in last year’s Green Point Stakes.
Snowdance, winner of the Western Cape Fillies Championship (Grade 2) last month, has been priced up favourite for the R1-million World Sports Betting Fillies Guineas (Grade 1) over 1600m at Kenilworth this coming Saturday.
The Justin Snaith-trained daughter of Captain Al has now won two of her three career starts having won her debut back in February.
Magical Wonderland, from the stable of Candice Bass-Robinson, is a clear second favourite at 4-1. She finished a well-beaten second to Snowdance in the Fillies Championship, but being by high-class sprint star What A Winter there is no guarantee she will stay the “mile”.
Grade 1 Thekwini Stakes winner Lady In Black is joint third favourite with Silver Thursday and Via Seattle.
There are two other feature races on the programme, including the R400,000 World Sports Betting Green Point Stakes (Grade 2) over 1600m, one of the official trials for the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate in January.
Legal Eagle, who won this race last year before going on to top honours in the Queen’s Plate, is Betting World’s 9-10 favourite with Edict Of Nantes next on offer at 33-10.
Edict Of Nantes, of course, won both the Investec Cape Derby and the Daily News 2000 last season before finishing third in the Vodacom Durban July. He won his seasonal debut, beating Sail South in a 1400m Pinnacle race this month.
The Brett Crawford-trained fouryear-old will have many supporters particularly because the impression many punters have is that Sean Tarry’s team is misfiring.
Crawford saddles another two runners in the seven-horse field, including third favourite Captain America and joint fourth-favourite Sail South.
Gold Standard, who finished fourth in this year’s Sun Met and showed promise in his only run since looks good value at 7-1.
Durban July winner Marinaresco will be making his seasonal debut in the R400,000 World Sports Betting Cape Merchants over 1200m, but is a 12-1 chance over a distance deemed far too short.
Betting World has priced up Sergeant Hardy and Marinaresco’s stablemate Dutch Philip at 5-1 joint favourites.Dutch Philip ran poorly in the Cape Classic but is reverting to a shorter distance, while Snaithtrained Sergeant Hardy comes into this race with his confidence on a high following a 1200m Pinnacle win.
One of Crawford’s three runners, Search Party is third favourite at 6-1 after his fourth behind Sergeant Hardy.
