Tragedy strikes club

ABC Motsepe League side FC Palmeros in the North West has lost one of their talented players in Clifford Mboweni after the striker collapsed at training and died. According to a source at the club, the club didn’t know whether he was ill and were devastated by the tragedy. “We never knew if there was anything wrong with, we are all shocked by what happened to Clifford. He just fell down and passed away during a training session last week. He was a very talented boy with a great future ahead of him. There was so much potential in him and he wanted to see himself playing in the PSL next season,” said the source.

Phungwayo to be offered deal

A reliable source at Free State Stars has revealed to that the club is preparing to extend the contract of leftback Patrick Phungwayo (above) for two more years after he impressed observers in the last couple of months. The powerful defender joined the club from Orlando Pirates prior to the start of the current season, signing a one-year deal with the team. “Everyone is impressed with his contributi­on to the club, therefore the club’s management has decided to offer him a new contract for a further two years. Bacela plays for ABC Motsepe League side Magic FC in Cape Town and his now thinking of calling it quits so he can concentrat­e more on his businesses. “It’s been long overdue for him to retire. But he has finally decided to end his football career and do other things on the side. He is a very optimistic guy with a great business mind, so he just wants to fully focus on his business ventures at the moment. He has made an incredible contributi­on to the club and I don’t think they will want to lose him,” said the source.
