Pitso: Out with the old and in with the new

- Michaelson Gumede

With the era of Leonardo Castro, Khama Billiat and Keagan Dolly soon to be a thing of the past, Pitso Mosimane (left) reckons it is time to reform his side and find another equally devastating attacking trio.

The instrumental “CBD” saw their lethal partnership dismantled in January when Keagan Dolly joined French side Montpellier, while Castro and Billiat are also reportedly on their way out.

“We have to strengthen the team and we need to move on,” said Mosimane on the back of their goalless draw at Chippa United on Saturday.

“We have a good team, it is not about the ‘CBD’. They had their era and they were influential and they did what they had to do and we won major continental titles. But we have to move on and a build another team,” he added.

The draw saw Downs go three points behind leaders Baroka FC, whom they face in their next league encounter in Pretoria.

“I am unhappy with the result but I am not unhappy with the performance. We did very well to manage counter-attacks. They are a good team, Teboho Moloi is doing a great job and it is about time he gets his chance.

“Chippa fought hard, a few young guys were stubborn. They were tactically astute and were not allowing us to go inside. They are a decent team. How many teams come here and win?”

Mosimane took a swipe at the groundsman who, according to the coach, opted to have the grass at a longer length than usual ahead of the Pro14 rugby match between the Southern Kings and the Scarlets the following day.

“They kept it for rugby, so the ball didn’t move fast.”
