Magashule, Mabuza on thin ice

The results of the ANC’s elective conference clearly show how little many of the delegates know or care about the fate of SA. In what should have been a clear win for those offering a new vision for the party – amid a background of state capture and other scandals of corruption and incompeten­ce – the conference failed to convince so many of the need to change direction and rebuild the country.

The Zuma years have been disastrous yet many of his acolytes were elevated to prominent positions. Ace Magashule is a case in point, but he might have to answer for his connection to the Gupta dairy venture, and the funds that were used to pay for the family wedding, making his tenure as secretary-general of the ruling party tenuous.

Despite the claim Cyril Ramaphosa has been handed a poisoned chalice, his task is made easier. Irrespecti­ve of the powerful positions these two now hold, they are engulfed in scandals and the sword of Damocles is poised over their heads.
