Dancing with the Stars debuts

New to SA television, DStv premier channel, M-Net 101, will be bringing popular American dance reality show Dancing with the Stars to our screens.

The show boasts a star-studded cast of the country’s finest entertainment and sports personalities.

Among them is author and former Springbok rugby player Thando Manana, as well as Durban-born former European football star Delron Buckley.

Expressing their feelings about joining the cast of the first season, the sportsmen shared how this was a first for them as well.

“It feels great, to be honest. I’m the most optimistic person in life and I know being on Dancing with the Stars comes with lots of hard work,” said Manana.

“But I look forward to a different challenge and I know the vibe will be electric.

“I love dominating and the challenge will be for me to dominate the dance floor.

“I know the experience will be special for me”.

Former Bafana Bafana star Buckley is just as excited.

“I never turned down a call-up to play for Bafana Bafana, so when this opportunity came up I was not going to say no.

“I have always been loyal to my country of birth and fellow citizens. “I must admit, it was scary at first, but I’ve always attacked life with such zest.

“I’ve never seen myself near a dance floor before but the opportunity to be part of this magnificent show was what swung it for me,” said the former 40-year-old Maritzburg United striker.

He said the closest he has been to Latin dancing was watching a 1990s dance movie called Lambada.

“Where I grew up, ballroom dancing was not an in thing,” he said.

The show, in which 12 untrained local celebrities will put their best feet forward with the help of highly-skilled, professional Latin and ballroom dancers, commences on Sunday, February 4 2018.

Hosted by actors Tracey Lange and Chris Jaftha, along with an esteemed panel of judges which will be announced soon, Dancing with the Stars SA promises to be a really fun and entertaining family show to brighten up a Sunday evening.
