Players commit, but Pitso on the lookout

- Michaelson Gumede

Pitso Mosimane will enjoy his Christmas rest assured that some of his key players will remain with Mamelodi Sundowns going into the January transfer window.

The likes of Motjeka Madisha, Siyanda Zwane, Kennedy Mweene and most notably Themba Zwane (right) – who was believed to have attracted the interest of Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs – all extended their stay at Chloorkop.

Yet, while the coach may have managed to tie down the personnel he already has, he will be looking for reinforcements as he moulds his squad for the 2018 Caf Champions League. Mosimane’s side has been slim upfront with Leonardo Castro having already jumped ship to join Amakhosi, while Khama Billiat’s future at the club remains doubtful.

“It is a period where other players have to go and we will get inTown jured players back. We are losing players upfront. We have already lost Leo and the Khama situation … no one knows what’s happening. I can also see Cuthbert Malajila is going to take too long to return from injury. Anthony Laffor is still nursing a heel problem,” said Mosimane.

One attacker whom Mosimane is a known admirer of is Cape City’s Aubrey Ngoma. However, he has refrained from talking about the 28-year-old in fear of a reprimand that he received from City the last time he expressed his interest in the player.

“I don’t want to talk about Ngoma because I am going to get that love letter that circulated around the whole country. It is not right because I am going to be in trouble. Let’s leave Ngoma alone, he is a Cape Town City player.”

The former Bafana Bafana mentor reckons he may also have to strengthen his defence. He did sign Bafana Bafana international Rivaldo Coetzee back in August, but the 21-year-old is still struggling with a foot injury, while Ricardo Nascimento has been released from his contract.

“We are not sure about Rivaldo’s situation, it is a tough one. He hasn’t trained ever since we signed him. And now I have to start to think that maybe I need to look at the backline as well.”
