Let’s hope Cyril brings stability

Much has been written about Cyril Ramaphosa, pictured, since his election as president of the ANC. Some are convinced that he will regenerate the ANC, bring the warring factions together and stamp out fraud and corruption. Others feel that, because of the factionali­sm in the ANC, he will have a difficult task in implementi­ng any changes, especially stamping out fraud, corruption, irregular spending and billions being looted from state coffers.

The third group feels he will just be a black puppet dancing to the strings of “white monopoly capital”, and that the status quo will remain.

Ramaphosa seems to have targeted highly controvers­ial issues, such as radical economic transforma­tion (why does it have to be “radical”?), expropriat­ion of land without compensati­on (a total disaster wherever it has been implemente­d), and the nationalis­ation of the banks.

Ironically, the ANC, in June 2017, rubbished the concept of white monopoly capital stating that “there is no such thing as white monopoly capital in our

Neverthele­ss, one must wish Cyril well and hope he will bring some stability and progress in his endeavours.
