SA short up for Oscar
South Africa’s Inxeba/The Wound might not have received an anticipated nod in the Best Foreign Language Film category in the race leading up to the 2018 Academy Awards, but the country is still represented, thanks to Revolting Rhymes.
The film has been nominated in the Best Short Film (Animated) category.
Revolting Rhymes, based on Roald Dahl’s book, was made by Magic Light Pictures and Triggerfish Animation Studio in Cape Town.
Triggerfish Animation Studios is also behind South African films like Khumba and Adventures in Zambezia.
Johannesburg audiences will be able to see Revolting Rhymes at The Bioscope in Maboneng on February 16.
Released last week in South Africa, The Shape of Water leads the Oscar race with 13 nominations, followed by war drama Dunkirk with eight nominations.
The Shape of Water’s nominations include Best Picture, Best Actress in a Leading Role (Sally Hawkins), Best Director (Guillermo del Toro) and Best Original screenplay.
