Classic bike racing too
Historic and modern-day motorcycle racing awaits two-wheeler fans at Zwartkops this Sunday.
The circuit will host the 14th Day of the Champions event, as part of its annual international Passion for Speed historic racing extravaganza. Topping Sunday’s events will be two races for International Classic TT Superbikes.
Representing the United Kingdom will be Alan Duffus (Yamaha TZ750), Robert Burns (Suzuki XR69), Bry Bayes (Suzuki GSXR), Carl Tiffany (Honda), Gordon Grigor (Suzuki GS1200), Ian Simpson (Suzuki GSXR), Ian MacPherson (Suzuki GSX) and Howard Selby (Suzuki).
Front-running local riders should include Noel Haarhoff (Suzuki GSXR), Peter Herbert (Honda Riekman), Dave Carroll (Suzuki Katana), Leon van der Berg (Suzuki Yoshimura), Etienne Louw (Yamaha FZR) and Gary Edwards (Suzuki Katana). Multiple former SA champion Dave Petersen will head up the Historic Motorcycle Group races on a Proton KR1, chased by people like Terry Barson (Seely Triumph 650), Etienne Louw (Kawasaki Z900), Dave Marriner (Honda CB), Gary Hunter (Honda CB750) and Robert Ralph (Kawasaki 500).
The day’s quickest lap times should be produced by the Bridgestone Thunderbike brigade, led by riders like Gavin Upton (Turn Skill Yamaha R1), Shaun Vermaak (Adrenaline Powersport Yamaha R1), Morne Potgieter (Ultimate Kawasaki ZX10), Karl Schultz (ASAP World Kawasaki ZXR) and Ferdinand Frederick (Wesleigh BMW S100RR).
Defending SA champion Graeme van Breda (Steffanutti ZX10) will likely be the man to beat in the Red Square Kawasaki ZX10 Masters races. He’ll be challenged by racers like Sven Grune (Kawasaki ZX10), Brian Bontekoning (Moyair ZX10), Jonty Collard (Pappas Pizza ZX10), Sanjiv Singh (Double Apex ZX10), Jaco Gous (Kawasaki ZX10) and Gareth Bezuidenhout (Kawasaki ZX10).
Hendrik Erasmus (E Engineering BMW S100RR) will head the Bridgestone Sub10 Superbike field, chased by Gareth Jackson (Morphine Kawasaki ZX10) and Landi Sinden (Milwaukee Yamaha R6).
