Banker Snaith’s Snowdance in the R1-m Majorca Stakes

- Nicci Garner

It is impossible to look beyond Snowdance in the R1-million Klawervlei Majorca Stakes (Grade 1) over 1600m at Kenilworth tomorrow – and if she doesn’t win, both Pick 6s at the meeting will each pay a fortune. The Majorca Stakes is Leg 5 of the Pick 6, which runs from Races 4 to 9 and Leg 1 of the Pick 6 Xtra, which runs from Races 8 to 13. There is a R1.5-million carryover to the early Pick 6 with a whopping net pool of R4.5 million expected and the Xtra pool will be boosted by R400,000 with the pool expected to soar over R2 million. Snowdance is a talented young filly, who has won four of her five career starts and is the best three-year-old filly seen out so far this season.

She beat Magical Wonderland in the 1400m Western Cape Fillies Championship in October in her penultimate start. The runnerup, who went on to win the Sceptre Stakes, is running in the CTS 1200 and if she features in that finish, Snowdance’s claims will become even stronger.

Last time out Justin Snaith’s charge beat her stable companion Oh Susanna, one of the fancied runners in the Sun Met, in the Cape Fillies Guineas over this course and distance.

She was taking on older feature-race contenders for the first time, but Oh Susanna went on to give her seniors a galloping lesson in the Paddock Stakes this month and her impressive performance gives the impression the threeyear-old fillies are well above average.

Grant van Niekerk replaces Bernard Fayd’Herbe on Snowdance, but has been riding her in work and has developed a relationship with the filly.

She is not badly drawn and is the best-weighted runner in the field – though it is more than likely she is much better than her 108 rating.

She is going to start deep in the red and there’s no money to be made backing her outright, so the best play is in same-race exotics.

Without Snowdance, the race would be competitive, but fellow three-year-old Rose In Bloom could be second best if she stays 1600m. She was fifth in the Fillies Guineas, but could do better from No 5 barrier.

Silvan Star could place along with Gimme Six, Star Express, Premier Dance, Seattle Gold and Rockin Russian.

Take a R210 Quartet Snowdance bankered to win with these runners permed for second, third and fourth.
