Bucs weigh up Stars threat

- Tshepo Ntsoelengoe

For the past three years, Orlando Pirates have not managed to beat Platinum Stars, but Bucs coach Micho Sredojevic (above) is adamant his side can win when they meet in an Absa Premiership clash at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace today.

The Buccaneers last beat Dikwena during the 2014/2015 season, but since then, the Rustenburg outfit have been unbeaten against them.

Bucs, however, have managed to get victories against teams they have struggled to beat in the past and Micho is looking at that factor to help Pirates triumph against Dikwena on the day.

“This season has seen us do away with so-called hoodoo teams. I don’t believe there is such a thing as hoodoo team, it is just a mental block that has no basis in reality because we are a quality side. Therefore, the approach will be similar to the approach we had for Celtic and Sundowns,” the Bucs coach was quoted as saying on the club’s website.

With Platinum Stars on a quest to get themselves off the bottom of the league standings after registering only three wins in 18 games, Sredojevic adds that the club’s current form won’t count for anything when the teams meet.

“It is a known fact that teams play their best football when playing against the likes of Orlando Pirates and therefore their current form will not be a factor. We are rather making preparations like we would for any other game. We expect a tough encounter from a tough opponent and that is our approach to this match,” he continued.

The Buccaneers are sixth with 27 points after the same number of games as Dikwena.
