Cape Town derby clash no place for faint hearts

There will be no love lost between Cape Town All Stars and Ubuntu Cape Town as the National First Division strugglers do battle for an important three points in the Cape Town derby at Parow Park Stadium today (3.30pm).

A brief look at the table could easily make you believe Igugu leKapa are in a better position as they are ninth going into this afternoon’s match, but a closer look tells a different story as there are just eight points between the sides.

Ubuntu will be the more desperate as they are perched dangerously second from bottom, one point above Mthatha Bucks. But Igugu leKapa coach Brandon Truter will have no favours to spare for their neighbours as he looks to build from last weekend’s 2-1 win over Black Leopards and send his team into the top eight.

“There were a lot of positives from the Leopards game, especially the character, the will to win in tough conditions in front of a big crowd. Players responded well in terms of tactical discipline, but there are still areas we’re addressing,” he said.

Despite their lowly standing, Ubuntu have been playing well and have proved to have plenty of fight left.

Real Kings will also be looking to keep their winning streak going when they host KwaZulu-Natal neighbours, Uthongathi, at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium, also this afternoon.
