Mkhize’s return a boost for struggling Cosmos

- Sibongiseni Gumbi

Jomo Cosmos have been given a fillip by the return to action of Sicelo Mkhize as they look to get their campaign back on track with a win when they meet embattled University of Pretoria at Tuks Stadium this afternoon.

Ezenkosi have struggled to win since the summer break where they sold two of their influential players in Linda Mntambo and Mxolisi Macuphu.

In four matches after the break, Ezenkosi have lost two and drawn two and consequently dropped to third, falling eight points behind leaders Highlands Park.

Cosmos might have to make do without trusted defender Thato Lingwati who is nursing an ankle strain suffered in last weekend’s draw against Witbank Spurs.

In AmaTuks, Cosmos meet a side who are desperate to curb a downward spiral which has seen them fall back in the promotion race. Shaun Bartlett’s team have not won a match since December 12 and have drawn one.

Real Kings are aiming to inch closer to Highlands Park when they meet Spurs at Puma Rugby Stadium in eMalahleni today.

The Magic Boys have been superb over the last few weeks and have climbed to second on the standings but are six points behind the Lions of the North.

Simo Dladla’s side have not lost a league match since the 2-0 defeat to provincial neighbours Uthongathi on December 3.

Today:

Witbank Spurs v Real Kings; University of Pretoria v Jomo Cosmos; Tshakhuma v Mthatha Bucks; Highlands Park v Royal Eagles; Richards Bay v CT All Stars; Ubuntu CT v Black Leopards.
