8 die as bakkie hits bridge

Eight people travelling in a bakkie to a funeral have died in a motor vehicle accident on the N12 near Britstown, Northern Cape police said yesterday.

“It is alleged that the bakkie collided with a bridge which caused some parts of the bakkie to be ripped apart. The front part of the bakkie, with three deceased, was found at the bottom of the bridge,” said police spokesperson Captain Sergio Kock.

Five women and three men died, while another woman is in hospital. – ANA
