USA and SA to clash in V8 Sprint Car races in Vereenigin­g

The Ultimate Raceway, situated in the Vereenigin­g Showground­s, will offer patrons the first round of an internatio­nal V8 Sprint Car series between drivers from the USA and SA this Saturday.

Some 25 Sprint Cars will take to the tarmac, with the visitors coming up against some of our country’s top drivers.

The Americans, Brian Lay, Brian Tyler, Jimmy McCune, Mike Stutsman and Derek Snyder, will use cars supplied by the local V8 Sprint Car fraternity.

After Saturday morning’s qualifying sessions the big cars

Racing proper will commence at 5pm.

Admission will cost R100 per adult and R50 per child.

Food and drink will be on sale or you can bring your own, with parking free and patrolled. will be divided into two groups, with the quickest 12 racing apart from the slowest 12 qualifyers.

There will also be a final race, with the American drivers taking on the five quickest South Africans.

Supporting the internatio­nal proceeding­s will be a full programme of local racing, catering for 1 660cc Saloons, Ninja karts, Stock Rods, HotRods and Two-Litre Saloons.

The venue gates will be open from noon, with qualifying for all the classes during the afternoon.
