LYNNE BROWN

Chairperso­n of the Mitchell’s Plain Youth Congress and a United Women’s Organisati­on member till 1985

Served as a member of the United Women’s Congress till 1990. She had served as an education officer and as provincial secretary

1987

Initiated and was director of the Women’s College

1994

Brown was the ANC’s candidate for Cape Town mayor

2008

Following the ANC’s Western Cape loss to the DA, Brown was replaced by then elected Premier Helen Zille

2014

Brown was succeeded by Pravin Gordhan following President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Cabinet reshuffle

2018 1979

With the United Democratic Front’s formation in 1983 until its disbandmen­t, Brown served as a member of its finance committee

1985

Joined the ANC. By 1999 she was elected to the provincial executive committee and served as Western Cape provincial secretary of the ANC Women’s League since 1990

1990

Elected as an ANC member of the Western Cape provincial legislatur­e

1999

Served as Western Cape premier from July

2009

Appointed by former President Jacob Zuma as public enterprise­s minister

2018

Resigned as a member of parliament, effective February 27
