Costa Da Sol to shine for Chesney at the Vaal

CLASS: LAST TIME RAN REASONABLY WELL IN MUCH STRONGER COMPANY AND SHOULD HAVE TOO MUCH CLASS FOR THIS FIELD Oh My Darling likely to go off favourite but question is does she see out 1600m.

Costa Da Sol has a penchant for the Vaal course and can give assistant trainer Chesney van Zyl a victory in Race 8 tomorrow, a MR 84 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1600m.

Van Zyl runs the Highveld yard for his father, Gavin, who is based in KwaZulu-Natal and has no doubt made his dad proud.

Costa Da Sol has run seven times at the Vaal for one win and five places. This daughter of Mogok, who last time ran reasonably well in much stronger company, should have too much class for this field. Then event she competed in a Conditions Plate over 1600m at Turffontein but the race went to She’s A Giver who consistently runs in feature races.

Mike de Kock saddles lightly raced Oh My Darling who is likely to go off favourite in this field. This daughter of Western Winter has raced six times for one win and three places but there has to be a question as to whether she sees out 1600m.

Big Bang Theory was trained by Brett Crawford in Cape Town and was transferred to Mike and Adam Azzie’s Randjesfontein yard and has placed consistently. But although finishing close, she has yet to win a race on the Highveld. Her best two races have been over 1400m but she has Piere Strydom in the irons and perhaps he can extricate something special.

Azzie also saddles Return To Power who could be the better of the pair. She will be ridden by apprentice Dennis Schwarz which means she will have a further 1.5kg off her back. On her last run there should be very little to choose between her and Samarra.
