It is mission accomplished

The battle between former South African Football Association (Safa) referee Ace Ncobo and Safa president Danny Jordaan seems to have been put to bed after the pair resolved their issues following a meeting with Cosafa president Phillip Chiyangwa, who was sent by Fifa to oversee the matter.

Chiyangwa met with both Ncobo and Jordaan after the former referee wrote to Fifa and said there won’t be an elective congress set for March 24 (next Saturday) following the withdrawal of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) last week.

However, it looks like the elections will continue after Chiyangwa revealed that both parties have signed an agreement which he said he could not divulge to the media, stating that Ncobo (below) won’t be contesting the elections and there will be an IEC committee appointed to see them through.

“I had a meeting with Safa first, then had a meeting with Ace Ncobo. We then had a joint meeting and there is an agreement signed by both parties, it brings closure to the dispute ahead of the March 24 elections,” said Chiyangwa, who is also the president of the Zimbabwe Football Association.

“There will be an electoral committee appointed just before the election takes place and the Safa NEC is taking care of that. But Ncobo won’t be running for the Safa presidency.

“Safa should look at other cases that are within its powers to deal with such as that of Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana. I left that for the Safa executive to deal with. So my mission here is complete, I will send my report, together with the agreements, to Fifa.”

With Ncobo pulling out of the race, Chiyungwa could not state who will be going up against Jordaan for the presidential post.

“I don’t want to talk about the elections, my job here was to resolve any fights, that was my mandate.”
