Kolisi wants to see some fight

- Rudolph Jacobs

Whoever eventually takes to the field for the Stormers against the Blues at Newlands in their Super Rugby clash today, will have to man up, stressed captain Siya Kolisi.

With a flu virus laying more than a third of the squad low this week, the team could show several changes by the kick-off compared to the one announced on Thursday.

But Kolisi (right) said they need to hit back after losses of 34-27 against the Waratahs, 45-28 to the Crusaders and 33-15 to the Highlanders.

“We have got to front up and we are still positive, this game against the Blues is our most important and we want to deliver a good performance,” he said.

The Blues, however, are a side high on confidence after shocking the highly-rated Lions at Ellis Park 38-35 last weekend, scoring twice in the last 10 minutes after trailing 35-24.

Kolisi admitted that the Blues don’t just possess a very dangerous back division through centres Sonny Bill Williams and Rieko Ioane, but up front they have a great No 8 in Rieko’s elder brother Akira Ioane who ignited the Blues’ fire last week.

“It’s going to be a tough physi- cal battle so we have to be on our toes, but we are up for the challenge and looking forward to it,” said Kolisi.

On tour the Stormers had a poor second half against the Waratahs, a poor first half against the Crusaders and against the Highlanders another poor second half and are struggling to remain focused on defence for the entire 80 minutes.

They will need to fix their lineout headaches, show more patience on attack and a run-atall-costs approach will cost them dearly as the Lions found out to their regret last weekend.

Blues coach Tana Umaga has also instilled a hard-nosed approach in his side’s pack.

Kick-off: 3.05pm.
