Three days after crashing out of the Nedbank Cup, Orlando Pirates will now shift their focus to their league campaign where they are in pole position to snatch away the Absa Premiership title away from leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Buccaneers travel to Durban for a meeting with Golden Arrows at the Princess Magogo Stadium today with coach Micho Sredojevic’s charges only four points behind Pitso Mosimane’s men who are on 43 points at the summit of the table, while Bucs are second with 39 points after 23 matches.

Bucs have been one of the more exciting teams to watch this season, displaying some good football, but they are yet to show anything for it, having missed out on every trophy they have competed for so far.

The league title remains the only source of silverware they might snatch and with seven league games remaining, it will be important for the Soweto giants to ensure that they collect maximum points in every single game with the hope that Downs drop points along the way.

Going into this match, Sredojevic will be hoping one of his star players this season, Luvuyo Memela, is back to full fitness after missing the previous game against Cape Town City due to an injury.

“He played a friendly game last Saturday against a team from Mozambique, he picked up a knock and he could not pass a late fitness test (against Cape Town City),” said the Bucs coach.

While Pirates are focusing on the top of the table, Arrows will be on a mission of their own as they seek to get back into the league’s top eight. The KwaZulu-Natal side are 10th in the league table with 27 points.

Clinton Larsen’s charges are just three points away from position eight occupied by reigning PSL champions Bidvest Wits who are on 29 points, and they do not have a league game this weekend due to their Caf Champions League commitments.
