Micho not too excited over win

THE LEAGUE TITLE IS NOT IN OUR HANDS Coach, however, says they must learn to kill off games.

Despite being one point behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates coach Micho Sredojevic continues to downplay their title chances.

The Buccaneers bounced back from their Nedbank Cup misery after missing out in the quarterfinals spot to Cape Town City in a midweek clash in Cape Town to grind out a 2-1 victory over Golden Arrows in an Absa Premiership game at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday.

With the win, the Soweto giants, who are second on the league standings, are now on 42 points, while Downs are at the summit of the table with 43 points and a game in hand.

“We shall not think about the league title until the last match of the season because it is not in our hands. We have one match more than Mamelodi Sundowns,” the Bucs coach told SuperSport TV.

“We shall think about our next game. We shall only think about the title once we have five matches left to play. I think the game is on April 3.”

The Serb was content with the victory and believes his team deserved to win, but says his players need to learn how to kill the game quickly when they are leading.

“I am happy we won but there are so many critical aspects of the game we need to work on. At 2-0 up, we put the most experienced players on the field to calm the game down so we could have a peaceful end but we conceded a goal and had a nervy end,” he continued.

“This shows we need to work very hard on the mental aspect, knowing how to kill off games and how to see them through peacefully to the end and not bring it to a nervy ending. But we are still a work in progress.”

“I think we deservedly won this game. We decided to have patient build-ups, if we lost the ball we counter-pressed and that is how we scored the first goal, we intercepted the ball.”
