Kolisi lauds side as Reds seen off

I’M GLAD THE TEAM FOUGHT RIGHT TO THE END Coach Robbie Fleck slams visitors for ‘cheap shots’.

Despite being pushed to the limit by a niggling Reds side, the Stormers scored a vital 25-19 win to keep their Super Rugby campaign on track at Newlands at the weekend.

Having led 18-0 in the early stages, the Reds were guilty of some “cheap shots” according to Stormers coach Robbie Fleck, while captain Siya Kolisi lauded his team’s character after they fought to stay in the game.

“We always get ourselves in good positions but then we don’t capitalise on them,” Kolisi said.

“We had so many opportunities and we showed a lack of concentration at times, but I’m glad we fought right to the end.

“This weekend, against the Bulls at Loftus Versfeld, will be another tough ask. They are now where we were after our tour and we know what it feels like.”

One of the heroes in the Stormers side was undoubtedly wing Raymond Rhule, whose career had received a big boost after his move to the Cape.

“I think coming all the way from the Free State it’s been a bit of an adjustment, but the guys have really welcomed me with love and allowed me to play my own game,” Rhule said.

“I think each week I’m getting better and bonding more with the team, and I’d like to thank the team as, at the end of the day, it’s not an individual sport.”

Rhule started the move which led to the Stormers’ first try scored by scrumhalf Dewaldt Duvenhage, while he scored the third try himself.

“I think it’s something we practised a lot (Duvenhage’s try) and it’s part of my game as well to get it right,” he said.

“It doesn’t always come off but when it does it’s something special.”

Equally impressive was Rhule’s ability to lift his defensive game, with a big hit in the second half stopping a potential Reds try.

“Defence is part of the game and you have to put in the hits,” Rhule said.

“I’m just glad it was the right decision at that moment.”
