Excitement all-round over Bok camp

- Rudolph Jacobs

He is excited what is busy being achieved at the national alignment camps steered by Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus (right), believed Lions coach Swys de Bruin.

De Bruin was present when 10 Lions players were involved in Erasmus’ second camp which also involved 12 Stormers players which were concluded in Vanderbijlpark yesterday.

“Rassie is a wonderful, exciting kind of coach and I’m looking forward to all the great things he is going to achieve,” he said.

De Bruin said their Super Rugby bye was ideally suited after eight tough matches, given a few players a chance to shake off the odd niggle.

“We started well with the three wins, then lose one, win one and then lose two, so the Stormers win was really at the right time,” he said.

“Especially now that these guys and the Stormers went with Rassie to a Bok camp, so the timing for our team is very good, they can rest after that as we only fly out on Tuesday,” he said.

Erasmus said after the conclusion of the camp yesterday that the input from the attending coaches added even more value.

“The sessions were very intense and we are confident that everyone – players, coaching staff and the various franchise team representatives who sat in during all the sessions – will all be aligned and have a clear picture of our plans for Wales and England after these camps,” said Erasmus.

“I want to reiterate that the success of the June Tests will be determined by how the Springbok coaching staff and the players follow through on what was agreed upon at the camps when the players are back at their franchise teams,” he added.
