‘Mind games’ did it for Sundowns

I JUST DID NOT WANT TO HYPE IT BEFORE

-

Part of Pitso Mosimane’s plot to chisel out all three points out of Bidvest Wits was to lead Gavin Hunt into believing that Saturday’s match was not a “big game”.

Mosimane’s strategy worked well as his side edged closer to the Absa Premiership title after a 2-0 win at Loftus Versfeld.

“This is a big win, I just did not want to hype it before because you don’t want the opponents to over-prepare. I am not saying they were not prepared, but it worked well,” said Mosimane.

“It gives the club an opportunity to play in the Champions League for the fourth time in a row and that is big. It is the mandate and we have delivered on the mandate, that is how big it is. Above all it just gives us confidence on the log to just keep us going and it gives us breathing space at the top,” Mosimane added.

While Themba Zwane and former Wits captain Sibusiso Vilakazi scored for Masandawana, Percy Tau was the architect, pulling the strings by providing both assists.

“I am happy that Percy is still at the top on the scorers’ chart (11 goals) because we have never had a top goalscorer ever since I have been here. Our goals are spread around and it is because of the way we play … we are not going to easily have a target-man,” Mosimane said.

“I am happy for him because he shows he is a professional, he shows he is playing for the team, he is not playing for himself to just score goals. It is maturity,” he added.

The former Bafana Bafana mentor was pleased to see Anele Ngcongca displaying a vintage performance at rightback as he has been struggling with fitness and form in recent months.

“Above all I am very happy that Anele is finding his feet and form. For me he was my Man-of-theMatch.”
